Amtrak Station, DeLand, FL

In the spring of 1989 a group of model railroad enthusiasts gathered and began meeting on the platform of the Amtrak Station in Deland, Florida (pictured right). By years end the club was holding regularly scheduled meetings in the Deland Chamber of Commerce building every 2nd Thursday of the month. Formal by-laws were instituted in April 1989 and the group agreed to call themselves the Deland & Atlantic Railroad Club.

Our 1st effort at running trains began in the fall of 1989 with modules in HO gauge, that were set up at the Pierson Railroad Station, which had been relocated from Pierson to the Pioneer Art Settlement in Barberville, Florida.

With increasing membership and the desire for a permanent layout and a private meeting place, the club moved to its present location, during the winter of 1990, at 1519 Old Daytona Circle in the industrial park in North Deland just West of the DeLand Airport.

The current layout is approximately 20'x25' (old layout pictured left) and depicts the southeastern United States during the 1920's thru 1980's.

The goal of the club is to provide a relaxed atmosphere in which hobbyists can share their ideas, accomplishments, techniques and fellowship through model railroading.
